My Story About Willow Oak Farm Golden Retrievers
My name is Chrystal Mabe and I have had a Golden Retriever in my life in some form or fashion for over 25 years. It all started with "Hank" and "Barkley", brothers, I brought home to be a part of our family when my boys were little. "Hank" and "Barkley" hung out with my boys every day. Wherever the boys were on the farm, the dogs were right there by their side. Wether it was hunting for bullfrogs or riding bikes. They were there. We were blessed to have both dogs for a long time, "Hank" for 18 years and "Barkley" for 16 years. It was hard to let them go but we knew they gave us everything they had and more. I waited two years and I was toying with the idea of getting another dog, I had my trusty sidekick "Cooper", a Dachshund- poodle mix who never left my side, but I missed my Goldens too. Then one day I was talking with my Dad and he had just retired and he said "You know, I have never had a dog that was Just Mine." Well I thought thats kind of sad, a man 76 years old and never had a dog of his own, so I decided that I was going to find a Golden Retriever and raise my own puppies. But I was going to do it the way I wanted to do it. Good, Healthy, Well adjusted pups, ready for their new homes. I now have Three Girls, "O"Ryley", "Oakley", and "Callie", That keep me going every day. They continue to give me some of the most beautiful pups to offer my clients. I keep my pups 10 weeks. After weening, I believe that the Mother teaches the puppy so many things that we can not, like no biting, or when they are being too aggressive. The puppies also get two vet visits with appropriate vaccinations and have full health certification. I do Biosensor training on each puppy. This helps the puppy get use to being handled for things like bathing and nail clipping. I expose them to loud noises to help them adjust to their environment. I am constantly in touch with other breeders and reading every day about ways to make my puppies better well adjusted family pets.
